Love Is the Debt That Never Clears

In Romans 13:8–10, Paul teaches that while every financial debt should be paid honestly and responsibly, there is one debt that can never be fully discharged—the ongoing obligation to love others. This love is not limited to fellow believers but extends to neighbors, strangers, and even enemies, reflecting the heart of Christ Himself. Paul explains that genuine love fulfills the law because every commandment governing human relationships—such as prohibitions against adultery, murder, theft, and coveting—is ultimately an expression of what love looks like in practice. True biblical love does no harm to others, seeks their good above self-interest, and flows not merely from external rule-keeping or fear of punishment, but from a transformed heart empowered by the Holy Spirit. The lesson emphasizes that love is both the fulfillment and the essence of godly living, and it must be actively practiced through listening, sharing, forgiving, and serving others as Christ has loved us.
