When Rights Go Wrong

In this message from Romans 14:13–23, Paul teaches that Christian liberty must always be governed by love. While the stronger believer may be correct theologically and free in Christ, that freedom must never be exercised in a way that wounds the conscience of a weaker brother or tears down what God is building in the church. Paul reminds believers that the kingdom of God is not about secondary matters like food, preferences, or personal rights, but about “righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” The heart of spiritual maturity is not demanding our freedoms, but willingly laying them down for the spiritual good of others — following the example of Christ Himself, who surrendered His rights out of love for those He came to save.
